Job Description

W.R. Grace & Co., a leading manufacturer of Specialty Chemicals, has an immediate need for a Production Engineer at its Curtis Bay facility.¬ ¬ 

This is an entry level engineering position designed to build a strong process and operational knowledge base for employee development into more senior technical and operational roles within the site.¬  This role will involve periods of shift work and front line leadership as a direct supervisor for operator teams.

Duties include:

  • Serving as a process expert on shift to support troubleshooting and optimization activities

  • Working closely with technical and operations teams to ensure the smooth functioning of the process.¬  Monitor and optimize raw material yields including waste tracking and minimization.¬  Updates operating procedures, PFD's and P&ID's to account for process changes and maintains conformance to the PSM (PHA, MOC, PSSR, etc).¬  Is a team member of the Operations Area.¬  Uses Six Sigma/LEAN tools to drive performance improvements.¬ 

  • Kickoff the start of the shift with the operators to set goals and expectations

  • Conducts regular area tours

  • Wraps-up the shift with the operators and conduct shift-handoff meeting with the next supervisor

  • Develops shift reports and communicate performance / issues in area daily meetings

  • Facilitates Root Cause Analysis (RCA) with team

  • Manages/prioritizes schedule breaks and changes to daily work assignments

  • Manages Operator accountability - coaching & performance management

  • Conducts off shift /last minute call-ins for coverage

  • Inputs maintenance work notifications and approves/coordinate Priority 1 (P1) maintenance work

  • Identifies and facilitate required work permits

  • Verify completed maintenance work and TECO maintenance work orders

  • Manages payroll/KRONOS accuracy

  • Responsible for information gathering and Step 1 response for grievances

  • Conducts regular area tours to:

    • Engage each team member

    • Address performance and resolve issues

    • Ensure cleanliness and 5S of area

    • Assess and confirm safe behaviors and conditions

  • The successful candidate will be able to quickly learn the production process, work with others at all organizational levels, organize and prioritize multiple tasks and changing priorities, and lead cross-functional teams and troubleshoot plant problems.

Required Experience

  • Relevant engineering coursework ‚€“ chemical, mechanical, or electrical

  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering (preferred), Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.¬ ¬ 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Co-op/Internship in manufacturing industry preferred.
