Job Description

W.R. Grace & Co., a leading manufacturer of Specialty Chemicals has an immediate need for a Quality Engineer at its Curtis Bay facility. This position is responsible for product release (material review board) for multiple product lines as well as¬ supporting¬ and acting¬ as the back-up to the site Quality Assurance Manager for the Quality Management System (QMS), the Document Management System (DMS), the Management of Change system (MOC), as well as hosting of customer and third party audits.
The follow are the criteria needed for this position:

  • Quality monitoring, analysis and control (response charts, sampling plans, GLIMS templates, quality release, CAR's, ISO, customer audits, etc).¬ Ensures that the plant meets GMP and ISO requirements and incorporated these standards into daily work.¬ Assure regulatory compliance, including environmental and process safety, and a safe workplace for all employees.¬ Address hazards, deviations, and injuries in a timely manner.

  • Interacts closely with Production Engineers to interpret process results and correlate to product test results, recommends & implements corrective action for optimum plant quality performance (yield, quality, CPK/Ppk, cost, etc) and applies Six Sigma and Lean methodologies to improve processes.

  • Key member to drive Critical-to-quality (CTQ) process attributes and drive implementation of and/or sustaining statistical-process-control (SPC) tools in process areas.

  • Will become and serve as a subject matter expert on CTQ initiative.

  • Leads or supports customer complaint investigations.¬  Uses continuous improvement tools for CAPA plans, leads CAPA verifications activities.

  • Determines and implements corrective action, seeks optimization of process attributes as they relate to product attributes.

  • Lead or supports process and/or product validations.

  • Uses Six Sigma tools to drive first-pass-quality and yield improvements.¬ 

  • Performs other duties/assignments as necessary.


The successful candidate will be able to learn processes quickly, work well with others at all organizational levels, organize and prioritize multiple tasks and changing priorities, lead and/or participate on cross-functional teams and troubleshoot quality problems.

Required Skills

  • Understanding of SPC required.

  • Some training and background in ISO 9001:2015 or similar standard background, including performing audits, preferred.

  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment (leading and participating) with excellent interpersonal skills, make data driven decisions and implement recommendations, and learn and use Six Sigma tools to improve quality performance.¬ 

  • Must have excellent communication (verbal and written).

  • Strong organizational skills, including leading ad hoc teams.

  • Must be able to maintain focus on Safety and Environmental in all activities and wear requisite PPE.

Required Experience

  • 2 ‚€“ 5 years engineering experience

  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering.¬  Alternative engineering degree will be considered based on experience.¬ 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Six Sigma and Lean experience preferred

Don't Be Fooled

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
